Inspector
Inspector (right area) shows the properties of whatever you selected in Explorer, Asset Browser, Scene Hierarchy, Scene View, Models or Model Editor, and lets you edit them. Changes go into the file that owns the item (scene, models file or asset registry) as one Undo step; save that file to keep them.
The heading shows what is selected. Read-only details come first; editable fields are under EDIT PROPERTIES.
Editing fields
| Control | Commits when | Cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Text or number field | Enter, or clicking elsewhere | Esc restores the previous value |
| Number field | Up / Down change it by 0.1; commits as above | Esc |
| Toggle | Click | Undo |
| Menu | Choice | Undo |
An invalid value is refused and Output says why. The file that owns the item becomes the current document, so Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y and Ctrl+S apply to it.
Menus that refer to other assets (models, actors, materials, images) list valid names. A value that no longer exists shows as name (missing) with a warning color.
Files and folders
Shows the path, size and whether the file is open, unsaved or conflicted. A PNG registered as exactly one image also shows mipmap settings.
Scene records
| Record | Editable |
|---|---|
| All | NAME (unique, not empty), POSITION X/Y/Z |
| With a script | SCRIPT SOURCE and the ON LOAD, ON START, ON UPDATE, ON DRAW, ON OVERLAY, ON STOP function names |
| Camera | FIELD OF VIEW (1–179), NEAR CLIP, FAR CLIP |
| Actor | ACTOR menu, HEALTH, COLLISION ENABLED, COLLISION RADIUS |
| View model | MODEL menu |
| Light | ROTATION X/Y/Z (radians), Illumination, Cast shadows, shadow softness, color (LINEAR RED/GREEN/BLUE), INTENSITY, RANGE (point and spot), INNER/OUTER HALF-ANGLE (spot, degrees), DEPTH BIAS, NORMAL BIAS, SHADOW PRIORITY, SHADOW MAP RESOLUTION (0 = scene default, or 128–4096) |
| Other | MODEL menu (or None), HEALTH, COLLISION ENABLED, COLLISION RADIUS |
Shadow softness is in degrees for directional lights and in world units for point and spot lights. Picking a shadow map resolution too large for the scene's shadow atlas also enlarges the atlas. A field missing from the file is added when you set it. Field meanings: Scenes.
Models
| Selection | Editable |
|---|---|
| Model | Nothing (shows part, slot and collider counts) |
| Part | NAME, POSITION, ROTATION (radians), SCALE, MATERIAL SLOT menu |
| Collider | NAME, POSITION, ROTATION (radians), SIZE |
| Material slot | MATERIAL menu |
Renaming a part also updates its children. See Models and the models format.
Assets
| Asset | Editable |
|---|---|
| All | NAME and the main path or reference for that kind (PATH, ATLAS PATH, METRICS PATH, FONT PACKAGE, SHADER PROVIDER, MESH SYSTEM or SHADER OVERRIDE) |
| Material | Cast shadows, Receive shadows. Textures and parameters are edited in the Material Editor. |
| Animation | IMAGE menu |
| Image | Mipmap settings |
Image mipmap settings
Mipmaps are smaller copies of a texture used when it is drawn small; they reduce shimmering. These settings are also in the Image Viewer.
| Control | Options |
|---|---|
| Mipmaps | Inherit, Enabled, Disabled |
| Levels | Inherit, Full chain, Limit |
| Max levels | 1–16 (when Levels is Limit) |
| Filter | Auto, Color (sRGB images), Data (linear images), Normal (linear normal maps) |
Inherit and Auto use the defaults from the material or animation that uses the image. Changes take effect after you save the registry and rebuild the game. See Asset registry.
Limits
- One selection at a time; multi-selection is Not implemented.
